PACEMAKER PATIENT

BURNS SURVIVOR

Age 12 — A Pacemaker

  • Born with complete heart block, so no one can break my heart :)

  • One of the youngest pacemaker recipients in the world

  • A childhood interrupted: While most 12-year-olds were getting braces, I was getting a battery for life.

  • A lifetime of 6-8 heart surgeries

  • Told I could never dance again.

  • Faith: Through countless hours of practice, I regained my strength

  • Became a National Ambassador for the American Heart Association, turning my painful experience into hope for others.

Age 20 — Surviving Severe Facial Burns, from car accident

  • Unimaginable suffering: Even crying was excruciating. My tears burned as they traveled down my injured cheeks.

  • Focusing on solutions: I put physical fans in my dorm room, so I could cooldown my face and ease it from relentless burning.

  • Choosing purpose over pain: Despite my injuries, I returned straight to school. Studying gave me hope and something I could control.

  • Choosing purpose over pain: Despite my face, I returned straight to college. Studying gave me hope and something I could control.

  • On campus, I wore a large sun hat to hide my face from UV lights and cover my face from mask

How to overcome challenges

1. Radical Acceptance — Accept Your Reality without denial or resistance. Acceptance doesn't mean approval; it means recognizing reality so you can move forward.

2. Mindset Shift — from "Why is this happening to me?" to “What can I do about it?” "What can I learn from this?"

3. Take Action — Apply your solutions with courage, consistency, and determination. Progress comes from action, not intention alone.

The power of human spirit can conquer all
